Diabetes

My mother and sister have type 2 diabetes. My sister has a wound on her big toe that really is scarey. She is going to a wound clinic and I pray that they can help her heal. I am very worried for her.

My mother has been able to manage her diabetes very well since she had an aortic valve replacement. I know the work that is involved to keep the blood sugar levels right. I give her insulin shots on a regular basis. I don't think my sister has been as diligent about monitoring her blood sugar as she should have been, and that makes me angry. I do not want anything to happen to her.

My great grandmother killed herself because she had a wound that went gangreen. They did not have anything like they do today to prevent infection like that.

If you have any type of diabetes, please take care of yourself. It is a serious disease.

Peace and Love.

Hey Abby,

Just curious to know if your mom has had any problems with diabetes after aortic valve replacement.

I keep a blog on heart valve surgery that is why I am interested. It's a pretty unique topic.

Thanks for sharing!

Hey Adam,
Thanks for reading my post! Actually no, my mom lost a lot of weight with the new valve, and I believe this helped with the diabetes. There was a short period of time where the doctors were trying to get the dosage of insulin right for her though.
She was a ticking time bomb before the surgery. Her health was already compromised by having had a stroke, and a quadruple bypass. We had a hard time finding a surgeon that would perform the surgery because of this. My dad was persistant and found one at St. Vincent's Hospital in Jacksonville. He was a God send. I believe my mother would be dead right now if not for him and the power of prayer.
I am going to read your blog, I am interested in the subject as well.
Thanks again, and let me know if I can answer any more questions for you.
